Diving
“Southeast Asia has almost one third of the World's coral reefs lending its coastal waters a hugely rich biodiversity. Thailand alone has more than 300 major reef groups laying off the Andaman Sea Coast to the West and the south China Sea Coast to the East, presenting somewhat different marine faunas on either side. The kingdom more over still has a greater proportion of healthy coral reefs than do its neighbouring countries… More than half of the kingdoms reefs lie in the Andaman Sea along the Western Coast line. Since the Andaman has deeper, clearer and more salinated water than the gulf, it also tends to have more interesting and widely distributed coral reefs, extending from Tarutao National Marine Park on the Southern boarder with Malaysia to the Surin islands on the Northern boarder with Burma. On the Andaman Coast, more than 200 species of corals have been recorded so far, compared to 60 other species in the gulf, as well as a richer variety of reef fish"
("The Moral Of Coral", by Collin Piprell, Sawasdee Magazine, April 2002)
There are a large variety of dives available within the western part of Tarutao National Marine Park, which is estimated to host 25% of the world's tropical fish species. Waters are deep and clear, giving good light penetration required for photosynthesis that enables rich coral growth. The waters drop to over 40 meters and so some current can be expected, but this is an advantage - there is more reef life to be found, as the waters are rich in nutrients. Within this archipelago of islands, the dive sites offer an excellent diversity of ecosystem, with thousands of organisms of which many are beautiful and all are fascinating.
Diving around Koh Lipe offers you the chance to see amazing creatures like whale sharks, manta rays, devil rays, eagle rays, blue spotted lagoon rays, leopard sharks, black tip reef sharks, groupers, many species of moray eels, barracudas, turtles, parrotfish, lionfish, scorpion fish, as well as seahorses and ghost pipefish…the list goes on, so keep your eyes peeled!
There are a large variety of dives for all levels of diver, from easy dives around vibrantly colourful rich soft corals and giant barrel sponges to the more demanding drift and deep dives for advanced divers.
All dives are made under the direct supervision of a renewed PADI professional.
